On Tuesday 25 March, Enyuan Khong (violin), Charlotte Kaslin (cello) and Cristian Sandrin (piano) will make a return visit to the Matthiesen Gallery to perform Lili Boulanger's D'un matin de printemps followed by two evergreen piano trios: Mozart Trio No. 5 in C, K548, and Mendelssohn Trio No. 1 in D minor.
Lili Boulanger's seasonal tone poem evokes the pleasures of a spring morning. Mozart's trio veers between moments of joy and poignancy, the struggle being resolved by an exhilarating conclusion. And Mendelssohn's first trio, hailed by Schumann as 'the master trio of our age', is a virtuoso work of great passion and intensity.
This impressive young trio has been invited to a BrittenPears Arts Chamber Music residency at Snape Maltings to study and perform the programme before bringing it to the Matthiesen Gallery.
Tickets are £30 (under-30s £15). You can book online HERE and we will just need your name on arrival. Or you may reserve seat/s in advance by emailing Mary at beagleeditions@icloud.com and pay in cash or by credit card at the door.
Concerts at the Matthiesen Gallery are by private invitation only, but we encourage you to bring your friends and share the details with them. Doors open at 6.40 pm, concert start 7.00 pm followed by a drinks reception, close 9.00 pm.
The gallery is located at 7–8 Masons Yard, Duke Street, London SW1Y 6BU. Please let us know in advance if you require wheelchair access.
Mozart’s trio is poignant and jubilant by turn, the tussle of dark and light eventually being resolved by an emphatically cheerful conclusion. Likewise, Lili Boulanger’s beautiful short piece evokes the breaking of dawn. And Mendelssohn’s first trio, ‘the master trio of our age’ according to Schumann, is a virtuoso work of great passion and richness.
