F. Chopin - Barcarolle op. 60

Tchaikovsky/Pletnev - Nutcracker Suite

A unique recital starting with Liszt’s impressions of Italian art and literature. The theme of the Wanderer permeates throughout this Romantic recital proposal as the second half presents two masterworks by Liszt’s close friends and associates, Chopin and Schumann. On a celebratory note, the concert finished with Pletnev’s charming transcription of Tchaikowsky’s Nutcracker Suite.

Programme 2: Beethoven, Visions of Life

L.van Beethoven: Piano Sonata no. 30 in E major op. 109

L. van Beethoven: Presto from String Quartet op. 131 (arranged by Sandrin)

L. van Beethoven: Piano Sonata no. 31 in A-flat major op. 110

-interval-

L. van Beethoven: Cavatina from String Quartet op. 130 (arranged by Tausig)

L. van Beethoven: Piano Sonata no. 32 in C minor op. 111

This recital focuses on Beethoven’s final creative years when his art developed a new complex language. Contemplative, earthly and serene, the narratives of this music deserve to be listened to alongside movements from the Late String Quartets, arranged for the piano by Cristian Sandrin and Carl Tausig.

Cristian has already performed this recital extensively in the UK, Italy and Romania, including the famous LSO St Luke’s in Central London.
